A compact umbrella has a hard life: it lives in a bag, gets opened in a hurry outside the station and takes the wind on the walk to the office. Ours are built for exactly that.

Jasper, £39. A curved wooden crook handle that hooks over your wrist or a bag strap, on an iron and fibreglass frame. In black, blue and green.

How small does a compact umbrella fold?
To 37 cm closed, which fits most work bags, briefcases and car door pockets. Open, the canopy is 104 cm across.
Will it stand up to the wind?
The ribs use fibreglass, which flexes in a gust instead of snapping. If the canopy does flip inside out, turn to face the wind to pop it back. Our umbrella buying guide explains what makes an umbrella windproof.
How should I dry it?
Open it at room temperature, away from radiators, and let it dry fully before you fold it. Only put it back in the pouch once it is dry. More in umbrella care and repair.
Should I choose a folding or a long umbrella?
Choose folding if it needs to live in a bag. Choose a long umbrella if you want a wider canopy and a crook handle to hook over your arm: see our long umbrellas.
Is click & collect free, and can I return it?
Click & collect is free and next-day on orders over £75, from over 7,000 DPD locations. Orders placed before 4 pm, Monday to Friday, are dispatched the same day. To return something, let us know within 14 days of delivery and send it back within a further 14 days. See our returns page.
