Drying & storage
- After use, open it fully and leave it to air dry in a well-ventilated area before storing. Closing it away damp is the fastest way to cause mildew and musty smells.
- Avoid drying near direct heat sources such as radiators or heaters, as this can warp the frame or damage the fabric.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Close it gently to avoid damaging the ribs, and take time to fold and unfold it neatly to prevent stretching or tearing the fastener.
Cleaning
- Spot-clean the canopy with a damp cloth and mild soap — or plain water alone, which best preserves the water-repellent proofing.
- Avoid strong detergents, bleach or abrasive cleaners, which can strip the waterproof coating.
- Never fully immerse or soak your umbrella — this can weaken the frame, loosen the stitching and warp the canopy.
- Don't scrub hard, as this can wear the fabric or cause small tears.
- Wipe the metal frame with a dry cloth after cleaning to prevent rust.
Telescopic umbrellas
- Always carry a closed telescopic umbrella by the body, not the handle.
- Don't swing it open or extend the shaft by throwing it open, as this can separate the sections of the shaft.
